Yeovil Crematorium - Competition Entry | Yeovil

Community

The £1.3 million project, planned to complete in 2019, aims to deliver a new 160-capacity chapel while also converting the existing chapel into a waiting room and create a second, smaller chapel. Internal alterations, a new building façade and improved landscaping are also to be delivered.

According to the brief: ‘The design of the existing facility is considered somewhat dated with the chapel described by many to be cramped and gloomy. The use of the crematorium has changed over the years. It is clear that there is now a need for a larger chapel to cater for increasing numbers of mourners.’

Our competition entry for the project in Yeovil aimed to generate a distinctive landmark building that would promote Yeovil as a flagship facility. The new extension would feature a bespoke modular truss system on which prefabricated panels would be installed to optimise the build time and enhance the performance of the external envelope.
