The owners of the original Windmill Bar and Restaurant in West Quantoxhead, within the Quantocks Hills AONB, decided to embark upon plans to upgrade the existing premises so that it could offer new facilities and attract new business by being transformed into a hotel/function venue. Reed Holland are pleased to have been involved with the design of this project, which included a new-build element to one side of the existing building.
Careful consideration had to be given to the phasing of the building works so that the Windmill could trade for as long as practically possible without the need to close the business for a period of time.
Several measures were taken to ensure a high standard of accessibility for all visitors to the Windmill, including appropriate signage, door entry system and canopy system to provide shelter from the weather. Our designs incorporated greatly improved access for wheelchair and pushchair users.
As well as improved access, the general upgrade included providing new accommodation on all floors, resulting in several letting rooms, offices and manager's accommodation.
