Rexquote Industrial Units | Bishops Lydeard, Somerset

Commercial

Rexquote Ltd appointed Reed Holland for proposed works at Broadgauge Business Park, Bishops Lydeard, to enable them to continue their successful business manufacturing road-rail excavators. The proposals involve demolishing an industrial unit and replacing with two more, the refurbishment and extension of an existing unit, and also the refurbishment of both Quantock House and Brunel House.

It is proposed that the manufacturing processes, offices and staff facilities are moved out of the dilapidated Unit C, that has been identified as being no longer fit for purpose and is to be demolished.

Brunel House and Unit A will house the manufacturing processes and include associated office, WC facilities, staff facilities and storage. Unit B will house the large vehicle spray booth that is currently located in Unit A.

Quantock House is to provide office space and includes reconfigured tea making and WC facilities for office-based staff.

The two new buildings, C1 and C2, will each house eight starter workshop units, which are to be sold/leased to small businesses. A total of 31 car parking spaces including two disabled spaces have been provided in the proposals to serve the starter workshop units. Motorcycle parking has been provided with space for six motorcycles. A total of 13 Sheffield cycle stands will serve the whole site.

The overall impression of the site on arrival will be vastly improved, with a reduction of built forms on the site. The new scheme boasts clean lines and is articulated and modern in appearance.

Sustainability and energy efficiency are driving factors for the scheme, and primary aims include the reduction of energy consumption and associated levels of CO2 emissions; incorporation of low water use appliances; and utilising natural daylight where practical to reduce the energy use of the building and minimise reliance upon artificial lighting.
