Reed Holland worked alongside the Homes and Communities Agency and Peter Brett Associates to provide masterplanning design services for the redevelopment of the Winfrith site in Dorset, including residential, office, commercial and educational facilities. The masterplan identified a number of key objectives; namely to provide low energy, sustainable buildings set within an environment where water management, environmental issues and landscape played a vital role. Our design set out to respect all the environment issues outlined in the masterplan, whilst enabling the new owners/tenants to work within a built environment that matched their business model.
The design is sustainable both in terms of the materials incorporated within the buildings and energy used in their occupation, namely; passive (low energy) ventilation strategy (depending on user requirements), sustainably sourced building materials, excellent thermal insulation, sustainable water use and disposal and where appropriate use of light tubes to maximise the use of natural daylight.
Acheson Construction were selected, through competitive tender, to build the starter workshop units and followed our original design intent to achieve a completed scheme that exceeded the expectations of everyone involved.
